Bud Trimming Scissors for Harvest Day
After harvest, you trim the big fan leaves and the small sugar leaves away from each bud. That’s close work, so you want a short, sharp blade with a fine point that fits between buds. These have a 6 inch body and a precision short blade for exactly that. Every one of our grow kits comes with a pair of trimming scissors; order another pair for a second set of hands on trim day.
The Harvest Guide on the Box
The back of every box walks you through the end of your grow:
- When to harvest. Watch for the last set of stigmas (the hairs) to turn orange, the trichomes to turn from clear to cloudy, and the buds to swell and feel firm when you squeeze them.
- How to dry. Cut the plant down, separate the main branches and remove the fan leaves. Hang the branches upside down. They dry in about 3 to 6 days, depending on humidity (aim for around 50%). Buds are ready to trim when the stems snap instead of bend.
- How to trim. Cut away as many leaves as you can, leaving the parts coated in trichomes. It takes time: on average, a gram takes 10 to 20 cuts.
How to Clean Trimming Scissors
Trimming gets sticky. The box gives two ways to clean the blades: soak the blade in alcohol and wipe it clean, or heat the blade with a lighter and wipe it clean.
